Happy Mother's Day
You are their definition of hero
And my definition of friend,
Their first thought of safety
When fears assail them
And my first thought of partner
Whenever the burden is too big.
You who grew and nourished them
With the bounty of yourself
Still give of yourself
To see them thrive,
You plumb your wells
Unto their deepest depths
To find the purest
Things inside yourself
Making them shine
And grow in seasons
You struggled to survive.
You toil your days away
To insure that they are seeds
That will find good soil,
And not like you who was made
To grow through rocks and thorns.
Thank you for everything you do
You are queen in this castle,
Royalty raising renegades
To take the enemy by surprise
Leaving them with only broken blades.
And my definition of friend,
Their first thought of safety
When fears assail them
And my first thought of partner
Whenever the burden is too big.

With the bounty of yourself
Still give of yourself
